Maybelline Stylish Smokes Collection

I was on my way to Rite-Aid to pick up a few things and I saw on the beauty displays a new eyeshadow quad collection by Maybelline. I tried to find more information on their website but I was not surprised they did not have it on their website. (I tried to find more info on their previous collection, Viva La Violet, earlier this year but didn't have much luck either. Check out the Violet collection here.)

This new Summer collection is called Stylish Smokes and includes 4 different color sets- Natural, Smoky black, Purples, and Greens. Each set contains 4 complimentary colors to achieve a smoky eye look with easy directions for your lids, crease, brow bone and outer corner. Maybelline makes it easy for beginners to apply which colors to which part of your eye with a diagram tutorial in the back of the packaging.

You don't necessarily have to use all 4 colors at once. Instructions include ways to have a Subtle Look (using only the lid color), a Casual look (using the lid and crease color), a Classic Smoky look (using the lid, crease and brow bone) and the Dramatic Smoky look (using all four colors).

I bought two of the four from the Stylish Smokes collection- Natural Smokes and Charcoal Smokes.

The Natural Smokes collection has more brown-ish tones. The Brow Bone (highlighter) color is more champagne/beige; the Lid is a shimmery dark taupe; the Crease is a shimmery dark brown, and the Outer Corner is a matte brown/black color.

The Stylish Smokes collection (similar to many other smokey eye palettes) has the silvery/grey/black tones to achieve a perfect smoky eye. The Brow Bone color is a shimmery silver color; The Lid is a darker Silver, the Crease is also a shimmery darker Silver with hints of purple, and the Outer Corner is a black tone with hints of sparkle.

The other two palettes I did not pick up were the Emerald Smokes (greens) and Amethyst Smokes (purples).

VitalJuice Pop-Up Wellness Retreat in New York City 2009

This past weekend was VitalJuice's first Pop-Up Wellness Retreat- a three-day bonanza of spa treatments, fitness classes and healthy food samplings. They rented the space of what used to be the Virgin Megastore, before they closed, in the heart of Union Square. Although the event was open to the public, it seemed pretty hush-hush as they didn't just want anybody coming in. The security guard asked us what we were here for and we just told him, "VitalJuice."

One sponsor that was giving away samples of their product was SoyJoy. I had never tried their bars before and I was pleasantly surprised. (I tried the Apple flavor and could taste real natural bits of apple pieces inside the bar.) They cost about a dollar a bar, so it is a bit pricey. The packaging makes the product look a bit more like a granola bar but it is actually thinner, like a biscotti. Nevertheless it is a tasty treat full of fiber, protein and omega-3. It is a great pre-workout snack!

Another yummy treat I had was from the World of Grains. They offered Cranberry cookies and Garden Vegetable crackers to taste and bring home. After trying their sweet cookies- I am sold! Luckily they are available in Whole Foods across the country. They are selling 4 little packs with about 6-7 cookies in each pack in a box for about $4-5. Again, also a bit pricey but it tastes delicious and it is good for you too! I can't wait to try their other flavors of cookies- including Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry, Multigrain, and Oatmeal Raisin. Their other flavors of crackers include Garlic Herb, Tomato Basil, Rosemary and Multigrain.

Whole Foods was also another sponsor and they provided delicious home-made breakfast bars. They also came out with a cart full of apples. :) The workouts were provided by Crunch and seemed like a lot of fun. I didn't attend any but I did get to play some table tennis. (There was a table right when you walked inside the building.)

This Wellness Retreat by VitalJuice was a lot of fun to sample and try out different healthy products. I am so glad they were able to do coordinate this event for us and I look forward to attending next year's event!

Solstice Yoga in Times Square June 21, 2009

One of first event posts was the Solstice Yoga in Time Square. (Read the original article here.) Unfortunately I was not able to go last year because of my friend's wedding, but I will be attending this year!! :)

I noticed a few changes based on last year's info/my blog post. First: SOYJOY, among many other brand names like Danskin and Snapple, is not their sponsor anymore. Hence they cannot brag about it when they mention the goodie bag. Second: This year they will be giving out 1500 gift bags and yoga mats, as opposed to only 300 last year. Third: Classes this year do not have instructor names already specified and do not require a certain level of experience.

In preparation for this exciting and healthy event, I have been practicing stretching exercises as well as the Wii Fit Yoga routine. Some of my favorite poses include the Tree pose, Bridge pose and Warrior pose. It's all about strengthening your core and keeping your balance. The Boat pose is one of my least favorites and requires a lot of your core strength. It is the pose where your body creates a V shape..

Practice ahead.. If you will be attending and need a few yoga exercise moves, check out slideshows from Women's Health magazine's website. Click for the slideshow on 10 great poses here and an At-Home yoga routine with 18 steps here .

Health Magazines.. Women's Health is one of the several women's health magazines that I read. Of course, I read SELF (read about my recent trip to the SELF Workout in the Park this year here) , SHAPE, and Fitness magazine. My favorite part is that these magazines have tear-off cards/or step-by-step routines that I can easily rip out of the magazine (either cards or the entire page) and take me with me (to my living room.)

For more details on attending the event...

Go to the website: http://www.timessquarenyc.org/about_us/events_solstice.html

Basically, the event will be held in the heart of Times Square all day on Sunday, June 21, 2009. The 6pm class is available for registration, while all other times are full.

Shecky's Girls Night Out- Summer 2009

Ladies- it's baaackkk! Shecky's Girls Night Out in back in town in NYC from June 23-27. If you haven't been to one of these before, it's a must! Where else can you get have a great time with your girls, shopping the latest jewelry trends, tasting some yummy local snacks and having a few drinks all in the same place?

Where is taking place? At the Puck Building, downtown Soho area, located at 293 Lafayette St. (@ Houston St.) The Shecky's Girls Night Out was at this venue last Fall and it was a great location. The one earlier this year was a bit on the west side and a pain to get to so I appreciate it being back here.

I have been to three of these events already and I may sit this one out. Chances are if I go, I won't be getting a Shecky's Goody Bag this year. (See my Winter 2009 goody bag here and Fall 2008 goody bag here. Note: My Holiday 2008 goody bag was similar to the Fall 2008 one.) Plus, I wouldn't want a repeat of last time's fiasco, see here.

They do have some great sponsors, including my favorite Yes To Carrots, and some familiar ones from last year (Aveeno and Aquafresh).

I noticed the National Sponsors, the drink sponsors, at this event do not include Budweiser. There is usually a beer sponsor there to have a beer tasting at the event. They give you a sampling of 4 beers that are not yet in the market, and they gauge the audience to see how well they like it. That's disappointing to see, since that is usually one of my favorite parts of the event. (See pictures of my previous attendance here)

Jersey Shore Wedding- Part 2 Beauty Tips

At every wedding, there is always someone designated to do the bride's makeup, usually a makeup artist, a professional or a good friend. At the Jersey Shore wedding that I attended, there was a professional makeup artist who worked in weddings as a part-time job. We were all eager to chat with her about beauty tips, her experiences in the industry, and her schooling to get into the business. She told us about her struggles with juggling a full-time job and classes for her cosmetology license. She also said her main driving force was her passion for cosmetics/beauty and doing what she loves. :)

So a few basic tips that she told us to get a bride-beautiful face included:
1)Use primer! Primer will give your face/eyes a clean slate and palette so the colors will look their best. If you have dark circles around your eyes, you can use a yellow based primer to neutralize the discoloration around that area. Primers can also be used to control the oil on your face, to prevent shininess throughout the day.

2)Ask the bride what look she wants. The bride opted for a very natural look so minimal color was used, while looking fresh and gorgeous. She mixed two blush colors to achieve a radiant glow. She also used basic black eyeliner and a light, neutral shimmery shade for her eyelids.

3)Don't stick with just one brand. We had asked her what her favorites were and while she mentioned MAC, she told us that there were so many different companies with similar formulas so don't stick with just one name brand.

Other advice/tips in general included:
1) Checking for expiration dates on products.
2) Going to makeup shows to see new products/brands/colors and learn more about makeup!

Here are some pictures of her stash:

Her makeup palette, including the two blush colors.
Her collection of makeup brushes!

Happy One Year Anniversary, Beauty and All That!

Happy Anniversary to my blog, Beauty and All That! My, what a year it has been. I started this blog writing about random things and it quickly evolved into a beauty and shopping blog.

My first post was on an indie film, called Take Out, read here. Then, for a while I posted YouTube links on cute kittens. By the fall of 2008, my blog had become more of a beauty blog with beauty and shopping events/tips. I also came across the wonderful site, TotalBeauty.com, which features skincare, hair and beauty product reviews and once I signed up to be a part of their Blog community, the rest is history. Thank you TotalBeauty!

Be sure to check out my new sister site, Crafty and All That, soon with updates!

Everyday Minerals New Eye Color Compacts

Here are the other Everyday Minerals Eye Palettes, in addition to the gorgeous Everyday Resorts eye palette featured in my Everyday Minerals Haul post. Again, I do not own these yet, but I have been reading mixed reviews on the EDM forum. Some say the mini brush, which is very adorable, is too thick to actually get any product within the little hole of eyeshadows, and some say that there is too little eyeshadow minerals in each. The compact itself is very cute and convenient for travel, since it is too hard to carry loose minerals when you're out. It's also refillable, even though the plastic caps are a bit tough to take out. You can either get these eyeshadows in this each compact set for $10 or buy samples of each color for $2.50 a shade.

The Sand Castle Collection

The Lavender Collection
The Jane Austen Collection

To purchase these eye palettes yourself, they are under the "Kits" category and "Best Sellers" subcategory at EverydayMinerals.com

Jersey Shore Wedding - Part 1

Recap:
This weekend I went to a friend's wedding and it was absolutely gorgeous! Not only was it fun catching up with good friends but the overall atmosphere was so nice. It was a small wedding and most of the guests stayed in the same Bed & Breakfast. (The breakfast was delicious, by the way) It was the first time I ever stayed at a B&B so the experience was interesting. All the rooms were furnished with its own decor. The ceremony and reception was so beautiful (as was the tasty wedding cake.) Congratulations to the bride & groom!!

Bed & Breakfast
Here's are some pictures of the B&B I stayed in, including the room:

The view of the front gardens from one of the rooms.

The view of the grand kitchen, where the yummy breakfasts were made (including fresh, delicious blueberry muffins.) Unfortunately, guests were not allowed in this area. The kitchen is stunning and I really love the island :)

This is a view of the living room area. They had board games, books, and travel information.

This is the opposite side of the room with a nice table and two chairs. In the middle of the room (now shown) is a couch seating area overlooking a fireplace.

This is a picture of the bedroom I stayed in. This only shows one of the double beds, and this was my roomie's side. The decor was very pink, as you can tell. Pink sheets and drapes and yellow walls. Very girly!
This picture here is the view from the main entrance. Once you walk inside the grand mansion, you see the staircase and this common area. The wedding ceremony actually occurred between the two staircases. The groomsmen and groom walked up the stairs and the bridesmaids and bride walked down the top stairs to meet in the middle. :)

Stay tuned for Jersey Shore Wedding - Part 2: Beauty Tips

Review on L'Oreal Paris Double Extension Beauty Tubes

My review on the L'Oreal Paris Double Extension Beauty Tubes mascara:

This mascara definitely gave my eyelashes noticeable length and volume. It stayed on most of the day and some smudging by the end of the night. When I saw that it was a two step system which consists of first nourishing your lashes and them applying the mascara, I was hesitant. It made me wonder if the mascara was going to do any damage to my eyelashes, so I made sure I applied sufficient amount of the white coating. It took a while to apply since I was being very careful that I used enough coating too, and it also took a while to remove the mascara. The process seemed tedious so I think I will stick with my other mascaras instead.

(Disclaimer: I received this product from a third-party to test, try and share my thoughts with my readers.)
