NYC Shecky's Girls Night Out - Spring 2011 Recap

If you follow me on Twitter, then you may have heard a bit of my initial thoughts on the Shecky's Girls Night Out in NYC this year. This is the first time I have gone to Shecky's GNO twice during the same week. They are usually in town for 3-4 days so I went to the first night and then again on the last night because I won a twitter contest from AriZona Beverages. (THANK YOU & follow @AriZonaBeverage if you haven't already!!) They were a sponsor at Friday night's event, giving out their Rescue Water to all attendees.

The Crowd

la.venue where all the Shecky's fun took place

This year, Shecky's promised their Girls Night Out events to be bigger & better than ever before mostly because of people's complaints. What were their comments? Mainly we wanted better vendors and better goodie bags (no more same old products that show up in every single bag.) It gets pretty boring after seeing Goody hairties, Febreeze home scents, flosspicks every single time b/c quite frankly, we probably already have 5-10 already in our homes. I have attended GNO's since 2008 or even earlier when the appeal was still fresh. And certainly the bags back then touted more full-sized products than today. But in the past year, it really has felt like the same. I recognize the same jewelry vendors every time and I feel like I'm getting the same bag.. if in my case, you will get HALF the contents.. Continue reading to see why..

So did SHECKY'S really deliver the changes that they promised for this Spring's GNO?

Yes AND No. Why?

Cointeau Mixology Class

Yes- Overall, Shecky's events are fun and a good deal- for $15-$30 tickets, you get admission, goodie bag that has lots of great products, and free drinks! This year, there were a lot more drink vendors from with wine tasting to a Cointreau mixology class (rather than the Budweiser sponsored food tasting), and other drinks. They also provided a luxury shuttle bus from the location (located on 11th Avenue to 8th Ave. where the trains are.) That is by far the best perk, because you don't want to be walking tipsy for those 3-4+ looong blocks home. I also liked the fact that they brought back the opportunity to get manis & massages, courtesy of Oasis Day Spa. I was lucky and only waited half an hour to get my 10 minute back massage. :) That was by far the BEST part of my night- and finally going back to its roots! Although there was only 4 stations (2 manis, 1 massage & 1 hand massage), they really need to bring more of these services because 4 stations & a gazillion ladies.. that's clearly a sign of poor planning and/or low budget.

Shecky's bags..Want to get your own goodie bag? Register at sheckys.com!

Here's my goodie bag after my exchange. Otherwise I would not have gotten the book, drink, hair ties, chocolate, deodorant, one less pack of den-tek floss, etc.. you get the idea :)

No- Now, for a few negs. that I have to bring up... my goodie bag. (See 2008 & 2009 goodie bags here.) I was first given a goodie bag that literally contained HALF the contents that all other attendees got. It was half the weight and I didn't get anything new at all. I saw the Febreeze, Popchips, a Suave bodywash, and thought to myself- "This is the new and improved bag?" Especially since Shecky's said there were going to be changes, I was wondering why I got jipped. So while in line to get my massage and seeing the girls next to me get a whole ton more than I did, I went to exchange my bag after my massage. The guy who was handing out the bags told me it was the luck of the draw but since he was super nice about this, he exchanged my bag. I hope he doesn't get fired for this, but clearly a half-filled bag is the fulfillment people's fault. :) (OH- and I've done this exchange before b/c of a dingy bag so I must have quite the luck.) My NEW goodie bag contents didn't really POP but it was quite full so I am content now. (The best goodie bag was from Spring 2010.. see here.) The shopping vendors overall wasn't that spectacular as well.. I wanted more jewelry and more unique products, but I didn't see a lot of them.

YES/NO- But I did have my favorites from the night, including
AriZona Beverages and Dickinson's Witch Hazel, who were both giving out samples of their products. My favorite Rescue Water flavor is Energy in Lemon/Lime and by the end of the night, I was energized and ready to battle the crowds and heat.. some rooms were really hot with all the people in there. What better way to combat the sweat than getting refreshed with samples of Dickinson's Witch Hazel. They were giving out towelettes in individual sized packettes, and mini bottles to take home! Shecky's really need to bring more sponsors with giveaways because there were lots of people checking them out.

IMPROVEMENTS- One more thing- there needed to be FOOD vendors. It looked like people were starving b/c I saw some ladies eating their Popchips from their goodie bag and still looking hungry.. :(
No food + lots of drinks = You know what that means..

So, what does this mean? Will I be going again? Of course- like I said it's a great deal but I am looking forward to real change next time (or at least in the near future)!! But I am intrigued to learn what the other GNOs at other cities are like! Attendees at the event were able to purchase tickets for the Summer Night Out event in NYC and sign up for Girlfriend Deals, debuting on April 1.

If you're reading this, that means you made it to the end and read all my candid likes/dislikes on the event. I sincerely hope Shecky's & Claudia Chan, the CEO and a great role model, read this to help improve their events. Shecky's is no doubt getting larger and expanding quickly but its events that ties them to what Shecky's is all about needs to keep its quality!!

Shecky's NYC Holiday Night Out is happening again this December 15 - 17 at the Altman Building. Tickets range from $25 - $50, with all ticket admission giving you a goodie bag. The $50 liimted ticket will give you a Nest tote bag. NYC Shecky's Girls Night Out - Fall 2010 Event Recap

Shecky's Fall Girls Night Out is in full force again. Earlier this month they were at NYC for a few days and I was excited to attend again! The venue was new and was a bit different. They had the usual jewelry vendors, foodies and as always the Beer Tasting! I was good and didn't spend a single dime! Instead, I enjoyed the atmosphere, company and food samples!

NYC Shecky's Girls Night Out Recap -Spring 2010

I was invited to attend the NYC Shecky's Girls Night Out event at 82 Mercer last week. I have been a regular at their events for the past 2 years (attended their Fall Girls Night Out and Holiday Night Out just 7 months ago), so I was excited to go again this Spring! This was a new venue for me in Soho and it was fantastic! There were 3 large rooms with so many great jewelry & fashion vendors. Luckily I got there by 5:30pm right before a huge line started to form around 6pm. It was packed already inside so I'm not surprised they had to control the crowd. Check out some of the bling-bling that I saw!

Of course, while shopping or browsing these great vendors, everyone was enjoying drinks at the bars from the main sponsors:

In addition to the regular Beer Tasting event, they had something new from Lean Cuisine. We got the chance to sample their Garlic Chicken in their refridgerator/frozen section. So yummy! They set up this photo opp with the Lean Cuisine right before entering to get your sample and dine in their mini cafeteria.

While enjoying my snack, I got to sit and really look at my over-stuffed Goodie Bag. LOOK AT ALL THIS! This time is by far one of the best bags I have gotten at Shecky's!

Some of the brands that you probably recognize are:

Colgate, Rembrandt, Febreeze Home Collection, Band-Aid, Goody, Venus shaver, Suave Naturals, Jergens, Body Shop, Lisa Gardner book, Aveeno, Softlips, Lady Speed Stick, Dr. Scholls and more!

I'm excited to try a lot of the new products, especially the Febreeze Home Collection Diffuser and Scented Lamp! I don't normally use these at home, but I'm looking forward to trying the diffuser for my bathroom and the lamp for my living room. I also liked there were a few products that will great for travel- shaver, lotion, shampoo/conditioner from Aveeno!

Don't miss the Shecky's Girls Night Out at a city near you. If it's NYC, you'll have to wait until the Fall.. just a few months away!

Which products caught your eye? ;)

A special thank you to Karen from Shecky's for inviting me to the event! :)

2009 Shecky's NYC Holiday Night Out Recap

This year's Shecky's Holiday Night Out in NYC was so much fun! I went last year but the venue @Puck is so much better since there's more room to mingle. Also, if I recall correctly, the weather was horrible last year- it was pouring but this year, it was nice! I went on a Friday, but if you went on Saturday this year.. you may disagree (ie: the blizzard came.)

So Santa surprised me with two goodie bags :) Double the loot to use and share! I was one of the early birds so I got a nice train case from Beauty Fix!

Shecky's Goodie bag
If you want to see pictures of the goodie bag, you must request and comment below! Thanks! I'm trying to gauge interest in haul pictures..

Located the Puck Building in Soho, the event was spread out in three rooms with many vendors selling jewelry, stationary, crochet hats, socks, cosmetics, etc. I bought some gifts and also the cutest stationery from the Bonnie Marcus Collection. Stay tuned to my post featuring their products...

Also like previous Shecky's events, I participated in the Beer Tasting, sponsored by Bud Light.. yum! Trying new beers with different food pairings.

Shecky's Holiday Night Out

Of the four I tasted, my fave was Kirin Light because it was the lightest and tasted the best. I definitely did not like the Hoegaarden; it was cloudy and did not taste smooth at all.. yuk!

Overall, it was a fun shopping event to hang out and catch up with friends! If you would like to join me next time, let me know!

My goodie bag...enjoy!

NYC StyleFixx Girl's Night Out

StyleFixx's Girl's Night Out event in New York City was a blast! Located at the Metropolitan Pavillion, home of many sample sales in NYC, the Girl's Night Out event had many vendors selling jewelry, makeup products and accessories. This event is similar to the Shecky's Girls Night Out event that I have been to earlier this year and last year. Read about the Spring 2009 Shecky's event here.

I wanted to try something different this year which is why I attended the StyleFixx event instead. I wasn't too impressed with the last Shecky's goodie bag either (I already have 3 anyway), so I was happy to see a different variety of items in the StyleFixx bag.

Comparing the Shecky's and StyleFixx's Goodie Bags:

Thanks to Food and Beauty blog, here is a picture of this year's Shecky's bag. The blogger noted that it was mostly sample size products and hoped to have full-size beauty items.
Here is a picture of the StyleFixx bag. It may look a lot less, but I am glad to have received the Yes to Carrots full-size product as well as the Glamour Kit. You may also notice that there are a few items that were in both bags- Lindt chocolate bars and sample pads.. haha.

More Pictures if you...
