NYC Pretty City's Chris Chase Salon event 8/23

As a VIPretty, I was invited to attend the NYC Pretty City event this past Monday at the Chris Chase salon in the Chelsea area. (I received a VIPretty invite, but no actual confirmation I was VIPretty yet...) Anyway, it was A LOT of fun! It was a rather short event, which was good since I wasn't able to stay long but in half hour, I got my hair curled, tousled and waved out by my stylist. Gals, if you ever go there, request for Brian! He did a FABULOUS job and gave me tips on how I should have my hair cut, styled (free advice never hurts!)

pretty city chris chase salon
Overall, I really like these events b/c you get to check out a neighborhood salon, see how well the stylists are and you basically get a great dry style without spending a lot. Tickets for the event cost $25 and you get a goodie bag too! I got a $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE to go back to Chris Chase services or get their products, OPI nail polish, a Softlips gloss (whee! another one!), and more!

Here are some of the pictures I took..

A few desserts you can snack on while waiting for your hair appointment. They also had IZZE drinks, but I was only given water. Did I look like I only drink water? haha
This is the view from across the snacks! Another couch for people to lounge around, as well as the goodie bags!

See the gorgeous chandelier?? On the other side, it leads you to a magical place... downstairs!

Here you can see where people get their hair washed and the line of products they use.
Sittng next to the snacks, this see-through glass wall (the decor in here is amaazing) lets you get a sneak peek into the salon.

THANK YOU PrettyCity.com, NYC Pretty City and Carolyn for this great event!
'till next time... stay Pretty :)

My Favorite Facial towelettes

I'm a huge fan of facial towelettes especially when I'm traveling or on-the-go. It's a great way to de-slick the oil on my face especially during these very humid summer days...
Here are some of my go-to towelettes:

1) When traveling, use the Dickinson's Witch Hazel Towelettes. They're individually packaged in 100% witch hazel so it's a great toner to remove excess oil, sweat and dirt I've accumulated during the day. Some people may be allergic to witch hazel but even though I have really sensitive skin, this toner is surprisingly gentle. It contains all natural 100% witch hazel and control oil, refine pres, and lock in moisture. (~$5 for 20 towelettes, US)

My other picks?
2) When I'm removing face/eye makeup, I use the Garnier Nutritioniste Nutri-Pure Detoxifying Wet Cleansing Towelettes (whew! What a long name!). (See my previous post on the Garnier Nutrioniste skincare line) These are strong, yet gentle towelettes to remove my mascara, eye makeup, anything on my face. They smell really good- actually most of the products I have used smell good, so I'm not surprised. (~$5.99 for 25 towelettes, US)

yes to cucumbers facial towelettes
3) When I'm at the office, I use the Yes to Cucumbers Facial Towelettes. They come in a 30-pack and they have such a great scent. They're very gentle and it's great to use when my face is feeling oily, usually by early afternoon. It's also a nice pick-me-up for the day. (~$5.99 for 30 towelettes, US)

They recently came out with a travel sized pack with 10 towelettes for $2.99. I personally don't think it's worth it b/c you can get 30 for just double the price. It's not that heavy either!

Zoya - Wicked and Wonderful Collections Fall Nail Polishes

After participating in this year's Zoya nailpolish Exchange, I have fallen in love with ZOYA. They offer a variety of colors and finishes and the best part is that their formula does not contain toluene, camphor, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). Since I have learned about Zoya, I enjoy looking at their new collections. :)
zoya nail polish
This is Zoya's Wicked collection- a gorgeous set of glittery, metallic shades to wear for the Fall. They come in shades of red, a purple and a green!

This is the Zoya Wonderful Collection. Though not glittery at all- this collection offers rich, creamy colors. My favorite is the Kelly shade- the gray shade that has hints of purple and blue undertones.

L'Oreal Paris- Color of Hope collection

L'Oreal Paris' Color of Hope was created to bring awareness to ovarian cancer and help raise money for the cause. They offer a Cosmetics Collection, in which L'Oreal will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. If you purchase the cosmetics bag with two lip products and two eyeshadow palettes, they will donate ~$5!

Get the details..

When I saw this collection at my local drugstore, the new gorgeous Fall colors immediately caught my attention. In my head, I shrieked Plum nails! I purchase "Color of Hope", "Imperial Plum" and "Delicate Dusk." All three range from a light plum, darker plum to insanely dark plum. :) After checking out their website and learning more about the cause, I really admire L'Oreal for doing this.

Check out this collection at your nearby drugstore/retailer.

Review on Color of Hope colour-
Absolutely gorgeous! It is the perfect purple shade, that's almost a bit brownish/purple. You definitely want to wear two coats of this, b/c one coat is too sheer and you will just see your nailbed. I'm not sure if it's the heat (I apply this near my window for better ventilation) but I feel like the nail polish dries up pretty quickly before I even have a chance to use the same brush to apply on the other side of the nail...like a bit gloopy? You have to be quick and make sure you have the RIGHT amount of polish on the brush for each nail. It's a bit tricky.. but the payoff is worth it!

100% Pure Cosmetics- Eye Shadow Palette

When I first learned about 100% PURE cosmetics from Meg's Makeup (where else would I learn about the latest and greatest brands?), I was intrigued by their concept. Making cosmetics from fruit pigments? I wasn't quite sure how it would work... but t

So when I discovered the brand at a local store, I was psyched! Their body collection looks to die-for. Why? They offer delicious pomegranate, chocolate, strawberries, peach and more flavors in their sugar scrubs, lotions and body washes. Their simple packaging also makes it look very clean and fresh. I haven't tried them though, but if they're all natural.. must be good.

The Cosmetics are also a bit pricey than what I would pay per single item right now. I have way too much in my collection, so I cannot justify spending $14 for a single eye shadow pot even though I really want to try this creamy formula! I did go back after a few months and the tester still looked pretty nice- so I know it will last longer than I expect.

100% pure pretty naked palette
100% pure gift set
100% pure chocolate lip palette

What caught my eye was their sets and palettes. They had a Chocolate lip palette, a Pretty Naked palette (neutral shades) and gift sets with brushes/eyeshadows/face powder and more! In addition, they had this lovely Plum Eyeshadow set.

If you don't know already, purple is going to be hot this fall. Whether you're rocking the violet on your nails (stay tuned for my Fall Nail trend article) or clothing, this Plum palette has enough neutral and plum shades to wear everyday. What pleasantly surprised me the most is that the color stays! At first, I thought the colors would be too sheer, but the trick is to pat the colors on your eyelids. Obviously the lighter shades don't show as well, but they make great highlighters under the eyebrows.

Looks like this palette is discontinued, but I definitely recommend seeking out and trying to get this if you can!

Their Cosmetic line also includes mascara, lip/cheek tints, tinted moisturizers, powder, cheek pots, and lipsticks!! I would buy everything if I could! :)

Suave Professionals Hair products to get Red Carpet Ready!

At this year's Comic Con, I couldn't help but notice Ali Larter (and her baby bump!) on the red carpet with her gorgeous glam waves, created by Suave celeb stylist, Jenny Cho! These pretty locks look natural and are easily achievable by anyone- including yourself!

To achieve Ali's look and get some of Jenny Cho's tips:

Start with adding a dime size of Suave Professionals Volumizing Foam to damp hair, blow dry to get fullness using a round brush.
I usually prefer a foam in damp hair because it seems to disappear in my hair faster. What do you prefer?
Next, take a 1 ½ inch curling iron and curl sections of hair, spraying Suave Professionals Volumizing Hairspray section by section and set hair into curlers and let them set until cool.
Add a little more Suave Professionals 365 Weather Protection Cream Gel and run your fingers through your hair to break up any tight curls and tame any unwanted frizz
Review- This gel has tamed my frizzies this summer! Am I the only one with flyaways and baby hairs? It seems like it- but I have used this for the past month and I have seem a frizz-free 'do every time I look in the mirror. My hair does not feel weighed down as well, which is a plus! :)

Lock in the look with Suave Professionals Freeze Hold Hairspray

Thanks to Suave for providing me these great tips to share!

GRAM Skincare launch in NYC

Last week, I joined fellow bloggers in the NYC area to celebrate the launch of GRAM Skincare. I met Dr. Gram himself who told me about the story behind his skincare products and more about the product line. Using his Nutra-Vît Complex™ technology (aka antioxidants, moisturizers, etc.) in his products, GRAM Skincare is also free of parabens!

During the night, attendees were able to get their REVEAL photo taken to see what really lies behind your skin. I haven't received my results yet though, which I should receive in the next several weeks. I'll have Dr. Gram look at it and he will give his product recommendations to take better care of my skin.

At the end of the evening, they gifted us with product samples of their Daily Scrub, Daily Cleanser and Clarifying Cleanser. :)

Looking forward to using them and reviewing them!

I've noticed that I have been trying a lot more skincare products recently. I definitely think that it's important to find a good skincare routine that fits your skin type and needs, especially during the changing weather. A consistent and effective routine will help prevent breakouts- so your natural, beautiful skin will shine through and you won't have to wear as much face makeup. Hence, a little bit of concealer is all you need and you can wear your bright lipsticks and/or play up your eyes.

Great skin also comes from a healthy diet, at least for me it does. Keep drinking water and stay hydrated this HOT summer!
